SURPRISE NEWS - There's More Water on Jupiter Than Anyone’s Imagination

Jupiter seems to have more water than anyone expected.

NASA's Juno probe released some new data which shows that water may be composed of 0.25% of the molecules in the atmosphere over Jupiter's equator. The amount of water is calculated based on the occurrence of water’s components, hydrogen and oxygen and which are three times more than at the sun. This newly measured huge amount of water is much higher than the previous observation provided by the Juno mission. This surprising result makes scientists curious to explore deeper again about Jupiter.

Combining the results from NASA’s Galileo and Juno mission is very important to better understand the formation of the solar system and how the entire solar system comes together and NASA wants to do that thing. According to scientist Jupiter possibly the first plant to form in the solar system and could have sucked up the maximum amount of gas and dust left behind after the formation of the Sun. Therefore, reasonable theories of Jupiter’s formation and how much amount of water was soaked up by Jupiter, that can be explained.

A ground-based infrared telescope was able to quantity water concentrations at Jupiter at the same time as Galileo's plunge and exhibited that Galileo may have accidentally hit a dry spot, meaning water is not well-mixed deep in Jupiter's atmosphere (Howell, 2020).

"Just when we think we have things figured out, Jupiter reminds us how much we still have to learn," Scott Bolton, Juno principal investigator at the Southwest Research Institute, said in the NASA statement. "Juno's surprise discovery that the atmosphere was not well mixed even well below the cloud tops is a puzzle that we are still trying to figure out. No one would have guessed that water might be so variable across the planet."

Thus, scientists may understand more details about the dynamics of the atmosphere and the interior structure of Jupiter by understanding Jupiter's origin. Consequently, these findings may help scientists to explain the processes of the formation of the solar system and the other similar types of exoplanets.
